The
Oldsmobile Firenza was a
compact car produced by the
Oldsmobile division of
General Motors from 1982 to
1988. It was based on the front-wheel drive
GM J platform, which was shared with the Buick Skyhawk, Cadillac Cimarron, Chevrolet Cavalier and
Pontiac Sunbird.
Overview
The Firenza was generally seen as one of the mid-level varients of the J platform (the other being the Skyhawk). The Cavalier and Sunbird represented the budget-end, and the Cimarron the Luxury vehicle end. That said, with the exception of the Cimarron (which costed thousands more), the base prices of the Cavalier, Sunbird, Skyhawk, and Firenza (in order from least to most expensive) were usually separated only by a few hundred dollars.
Trims & options
Trim levels for the Firenza included: base,
LX,
S,
SX,
GT (1986-1987),
LC (1986-1987),
LX Brougham (1987 only). For the Firenza Cruiser
station wagons, trim levels included:
Cruiser (base),
Brogham Cruiser, and
LX Cruiser (1984-1985). The name "Cruiser" was applied to all Oldsmobile station wagons at the time; this included the
mid-size Oldsmobile Cutlass Cruiser and full-size Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser. Other options included: air conditioning, leather seats, power seats, tilt steering wheel, cruise control, power locks, rear defrost, power steering, manual or power sunroof, power moonroof, alloy wheels, premium wheels, AM/FM stereo radio, and cassette player.
The Firenza was discontinued in 1988 and was replaced by the
Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais (formerly called, simply "Calais") for 1988. The Cadillac Cimarron was discontinued that year as well. The Buick Skyhawk lasted another year, while GM kept the Sunbird and Cavalier around until
1994 and
2005, respectively.
